What is a Sister City?
Since 1956, Sister Cities International has worked to create exchanges that create community impact and kindle lifelong friendships.
Sister Cities International was created at President Eisenhower’s 1956 White House conference on citizen diplomacy. Eisenhower envisioned an organization that could be the hub of peace and prosperity by creating bonds between people from different cities around the world. By forming these relationships, President Eisenhower reasoned that people of different cultures could celebrate and appreciate their differences and build partnerships that would lessen the chance of new conflicts.
Estes Park Sister Cities Association was created in 2006 as a partnership with the Town of Estes Park. Estes Park Sister Cities Association, has provided a number of opportunities to connect community members to global outreach with ongoing sister city, Monteverde, Costa Rica. Relationships with Monteverde included student exchanges and scientific research exchanges. Estes Park Sister Cities has also supported their public library.
After a hiatus during the pandemic, Estes Park Sister Cities is being re-energized with a focus to continue student, cultural, aristic, and ecotourism exchanges.
